Lose your Tummy – Ditching the Diet Fads
Despite all the diets out there, we are getting fatter and the diet industry is growing exponentially. This is because the average person usually takes the fast road to nowhere with the latest diet hyped in magazines and infomercials for a quick fix to lose weight. Unfortunately, the weight returns with a vengeance and we aren’t the better off for it.
The reason that the diet industry is a multi billion-dollar industry in the United States is that diets are a quick fix solution for a long-term multi-faceted problem. Being able to lose the pregnancy weight for the long-term seems simple on paper but it’s not a fast and easy task in reality. It’s time to pull our heads out of the sand and take responsibility for our actions to lose the tummy. It’s time to start living healthy.
Dieting schools of thought either promote eating or eliminating specific foods or eating a specific combination of foods or eating according to your blood type or having specific times that foods must be eaten. Dieting to lose your tummy will work for the short term but not be substantial for the long term. Knowledge is power and so it’s time to know the truth about these popular diets that will keep you in the weight-loss-revolving door to lose your tummy.
Low-Carb Diets
Low-carb diets such as Atkins do not work for the long term because they are either too rigid or difficult to sustain. Because you are depriving your body of its fuel, your energy levels will plummet giving rise to headaches, irritability and insomnia.
The body needs carbohydrates to function properly. The carbs we should eat more of are the whole grains, fruits and vegetables variety and less of the refined starches such a potatoes, processed breads, pasta and rice. Diets with the “carb is bad” philosophy can make you lose your tummy but once you’re off the diet, the weight will come back faster than you lost it.
Non Fat Diets
Eating a low-fat diet to lose your tummy requires that need to add something else to your diet and in this case it’s carbohydrates. Be wary of foods in the supermarket that claim to be “low-fat” as they are packed with calories in the form of sugars and will instead make you gain more weight.
Fat is an essential nutrient and needs to be an integral part of your daily diet to help you lose your tummy and stay healthy. One of the benefits of having unsaturated fats as the bulk of your dietary fat is that it improves your good (HDL) cholesterol and prevents heart disease. As for saturated and trans fats less is more for better health and weight management.
If you want to lose your tummy for good, then going on a diet is the wrong way to go about it. Not only will you gain back the weight you lost but it will also put your health at risk and your self-esteem, motivation and desire to succeed in jeopardy. Be responsible for your health. It means making food choices that are not detrimental to your health, and getting more physically active. Make the right choice and never look back at weight again.
