It is not at all surprising that giraffe stuffed animals are considered favorites among both children and adults. Everyone knows that these fascinating and beautiful creatures are the tallest among all land animals. The height of this animal allows it to reach various types of vegetation that other types of plant eating creatures do not have access to. Amazingly, these creatures are so tall that they could actually glance into the window of a building that is two stories high with absolutely no effort at all! One of the most interesting pieces of information about an adult giraffe is that their neck is estimated to be approximately six feet in length. Amazingly, just like us humans, the neck has a total of seven vertebrae! I found it a bit odd that a giraffe has the same number of bones in its neck as a human, yet the appearance of the neck is so much different! Then, I discovered that each of the seven bones in this animal’s neck is at least ten inches or more in size! This must be why the neck is estimated to be an amazing six hundred pounds in weight! The next main characteristic of the giraffe that it is known for is its coat – complete with spots. This coat really makes the animal quite beautiful. Scientists have discovered that there is one main species when it comes to giraffes, but at the current time, there are also nine subspecies! Each of the subspecies are actually identified by their pattern. Of course, the location where the animal is located is also a determining factor in dividing them into the subspecies groups.
The coat of a giraffe may vary from one that is light tan to one that is nearly black. I found this exceptionally interesting! Many people do not realize that the food that a giraffe consumes impacts the appearance of their spotted coat. The area that they live in may also have a direct impact on the appearance of their coat. For example, the giraffes that are native to the area of Kenya have spots that look a lot like leaves from an oak tree. The giraffe that is referred to as a “reticulated” has a coat that includes patterns that reflect the shapes of squares. Many state that these often look as if they are covered by some type of net. When searching for giraffe plush animals, you will find that there are many species identified through the design of the stuffed toy.
When studying the appearance of a giraffe, you are likely to notice that the head appears a bit lumpy. This is due to the fact that they have what is called “Ossicones”. These are little horns that are covered with hair. While both male and females have these tiny horns, males typically use these horns to play with one another. Ironically, more than two horns may appear as the animal starts to age. This is due to the buildup of calcium deposits. In most, there will be two horns that develop on the back of the head and one that forms on the front of the head. Depending on the amount of calcium in the body that forms, a male giraffe may appear to have a total amount of five Ossicones! It has been established that these amazing creatures are not quite as abundant as they once were. The good news, however, is that there are not at all considered to be endangered. This is due to the fact that they do not possess a fear of people and are not used by people in medicine, clothing, and to create food products. In the wild, there is one type of giraffe that is running low in numbers as far as population is concerned. This is the one that is identified as the “Uganda”.
