Christmas Ideas to Wow You – Part 1

Wow! I found myself in a Christmas wonderland when I visited my brother and his wife this holiday season. My sister in law had so many areas of decorations that I felt like I was visiting one of Santa’s helpers. Their house looked so festive and colorful, yet the cost of cheerful areas was not equal to the beauty that I found myself surrounded by. I asked if she minded if I used some of her ideas and shared them with my readers. She actually looked very pleased and proud that I recognized all of her hard work.

As I looked around, I found so many different areas of grouped decorations, that I found myself wandering through the house to look at everything and checking out how she had put together each group. My sister-in-law’s favorite collectibles are snowmen, but she has a great assortment of other things, too, like angels and churches, the things that have particular symbolism for Christmas.

Right now I am looking at one of the collections of snowmen that have fiber optic lights. They sit on the bottom shelf of a baker’s rack, in the corner of the living room. Surrounded by a few green, gold, and multi-colored foil curly bows on 4 red foil different sized jewelry boxes, like ring, watch and bracelet. They look like small Christmas present scattered around the shelf that the snowmen are sitting.

On the shelf above the fiber optic snowmen on the baker’s rack, are water globes with snowmen inside, each one a different size. The unique and easy my sister-in-law made those snowmen come alive with color was to add shiny colored glass ornaments around the bases of each snow globe. There is string of mini-snowmen hanging across the top, from one side of the shelf to the other. They are suspended like the reindeer across the city street was in Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus”. The slight upward arc of the strand of little snowmen heads brings your eyes right to the collection with all the shiny colored balls.

Reds and greens are true Christmas colors. They make you think of evergreen trees, holly bushes with red berries, red poinsettias, and evergreen garland. Adding gold and silver to the mix seems to add some richness and mystery to the total picture. One thing that caught my eye this evening, that I had not noticed until it became dark, was the fact that she replaced night light bulb in a vase shaped lamp with a green bulb. I suddenly realized that it gave the illusion of a candle in a green holder. Such a unique and simple alteration to a lamp, yet so very festive and colorful the outcome turned out to be.

On each coffee table, she had a snowman runner, again with all kinds of different snowmen stretched across the table. On one table, she added miniature snowmen, glass decorations of and on the other she has the shiny, colored Christmas balls. These ideas are very simple, inexpensive, yet very unique and colorful. From the lamps and ceiling fans, white satin Christmas balls painted with Christmas scenes dangle from red satin ribbon. Again, the idea is very simple yet so very effective.

There are so many decorations and such a variety of styles, that I am having a difficult time describing them all to you. And, I have only begun to describe the living room, because in the dining room and kitchen, there are many more decorations worth mentioning, as I felt a big WOW as I continued through the rooms. In “Christmas Ideas To Wow You Part 2″, I will continue to take you on this very special, one of a kind, visit through a Christmas wonderland.
