The Stationary Lap Pool: Swim Your Way To Health
November 24th, 2008Swimming is a great activity in itself, a great sport, and a great way to exercise. Physiotherapists advise this in preference to other modes of exercise. You get your dose of resistance exercise when you swim. Ancillary damage and injury is minimum in swimming.
Having your own swimming pool is ideal if swimming is a prescribed therapeutic activity for you. But the cost of building one in your backyard is prohibitive. Besides, where’s the space?
Well, now you can have a swimming pool at home. That too at just a fraction of the cost of a regular pool! It’s called a stationary lap pool, and it simulates a stream flowing past you. You get in and swim against the flow. So although you’re swimming, the action of the current keeps you there in one place as though you were stationary. Hence the name.
The beauty of the stationary lap pool is in how it saves you time, money and space. Measuring a little over 6 feet long and 3 or 4 feet wide, it is compact enough to fit inside a room. You can install the stationary lap pool above ground too. There’s no need to dig up the ground to build a swimming pool now. Of course if you insist on having the stationary lap pool in-ground then so be it! Better still; insist on having the stationary lap pool inside your house! That can be done just as easily as installing it out-of-doors. The price of a stationary lap pool is very affordable by any standard. Compare the price of a standard swimming pool with that of a stationary lap pool. You’ll find that the stationary lap pool is much, much less than the price of a standard pool!
Like most strokes of genius, the stationary lap pool is simplicity itself! The stationary lap pool is properly an open water duct made of durable, aesthetically appealing, stainless steel or other suitable material like plastics or composites. It is large enough to accommodate an adult swimmer, which means the stationary lap pool’s dimensions take the swimmer’s hand and leg strokes into account. There is a large water reservoir included in the system. Water is pumped from the reservoir into the open duct in a controlled manner. This creates an artificial water current. The swimmer swims against the current. The force of the current is set so that it is sufficient to push the swimmer back by the same distance that he moved forward. This way, the swimmer remains relatively stationary, whereas the water current keeps moving past him. The swimmer must exert himself forward. That way he gets his dose of resistance exercise as well as cardiovascular exercise.
The stationary lap pool comes with controls to set the force and speed of the current to suit your physical condition. You’ll feel like you’re swimming in a real swimming pool, it’s so realistic! The stationary lap pool comes in a variety of models, from the very basic to luxury models. Check out the features of each model, before you make up your mind to buy a particular model. One model has a hot-and-cold water feature so you can adjust the water temperature according to the time of day, the weather, or just your personal taste! Another model injects an alternating stream of hot and cold water to relax you like a full-body massage.
The stationary lap pool is a wonderful idea for everyone, but especially for those who need to swim as part of a therapeutic regimen. It has no downside at all! It gives you the exact exercise that you require. It is compact. It is affordable. You don’t have to dig a huge hole in the ground for it. It can be installed above ground, in a room if you want. You can buy it readymade. Installation is a breezy half-day job. It requires very low maintenance, if at all. Not only is it affordable, it will help you save money as time goes by. Think of all that club membership fees that you’ll save. Think of all that gas saving by not having to move out of the house to swim. Think of the convenience of going for a swim at any part of the day or night.
Swimming is fun to do. For some it is a form of exercise. For others it is a form of relaxation. For some it is just sheer fun! Whatever the reason, swimming is a wonderful activity for everyone. But there are some people for whom swimming is part of their medical treatment. The stationary lap pool is definitely a must-have for those who require swimming as a form of prescribed exercise. The stationary lap pool is affordable by most people. The stationary lap pool allows you to swim in the privacy and comfort of your own home. You’ll feel safe, because there’ll always be a member of your family around to watch over you while you swim. You can always choose the time when you want to go for a swim. You’ll be amazed by this marvelous product!
Have Fun Getting Fit With Trampoline Exercises
November 1st, 2008Sometimes kids know what adults don’t. And certainly any child will tell you that jumping on a trampoline is fun. But understand that trampolines are not just for kids. Adults are learning that bouncing is not only fun, but that trampoline exercises are a tremendous way to get healthy.
Let’s face it, most exercise routines quickly become boring. That’s why it’s difficult to stay with them for any length of time. Trampolines on the other hand are fun. Plus you will lose weight and tone your muscles without buying tons of additional equipment.
Trampoline exercises are beneficial because they provide a healthy cardiovascular workout. Similar to jogging on a treadmill or running around a track, your heart pumps faster and your vital organs become stronger. You’ll lose weight faster because your metabolism goes up. You’ll have more endurance because your blood flow increases, ridding your body of harmful toxins.
Your leg muscles will tone up quickly because of the constant jumping motion. If you’d rather work on the muscles in your back, simply keep your legs straight when you jump. You can strengthen your arms as well by adding some arm motions, such as swinging them every time your feet touch. And to quickly increase strength, you can use ankle weights or put a small dumbbell in each hand. Don’t do this however until you’ve been on your routine for a while.
People with back problems often find trampoline exercises helpful. The jumping motion tends to release strain or tension that may be building up. And these exercises are low impact, which means you’re not putting any additional stress on your muscles or joints. If you’ve been jogging but find that the constant pounding is causing pain in your knees, ankles or back, a trampoline is a great substitute. This is even more beneficial if you are just getting back into exercise after a leg injury.
Just your body weight is being utilized to strengthen and tone your muscles. You don’t need any extra weight.
Most people know that exercise is vital no matter how old you are. And a trampoline workout is good for senior citizens who may not be able to jog as they once did. Twenty minutes every day is all it takes to get a solid workout without worrying about putting a strain on your bones or muscles.
If you’re like most folks, you spend a little time relaxing in the evening looking at the ballgame or a movie on the television. While viewing you could also be jumping on a trampoline. You’ll still enjoy your favorite shows, and you’ll be getting fit in the process.
And because you’ll be having fun, there’s also a better chance you’ll stay with your workout program for a much longer time.
The Lap Pool – A Fun Path To Fitness
June 1st, 2008Like many people, you may have spent hundreds or even thousands of dollars on exercise equipment that you never use. But what if exercise were more fun? Swimming is fun and it’s a great way to exercise, but most people don’t have either the money or space for a full sized pool in their yard. It is for these very reasons that you should look into getting a lap pool.
Lap pools can be either short, about 5 or 6 feet where you swim against massaging jets of water, or full length. And no matter which one you want, you’ll get a workout that is almost perfect every time you use it.
The first way you’ll start to get healthy is through the cardiovascular workout. Your heart rate will increase, much like it would if you were running down the street, on a treadmill, or on a track. You’ll be burning calories and increasing your endurance at the same time. So it’s great for heart health and weight control as well.
But swimming is better than running because it greatly reduces your chance of getting hurt. It’s low impact, so there’s no constant pounding on your joints. That means no aching feet, knees or back. You get all the fitness benefits without all the aches and pains.
But there’s an additional benefit to swimming. The water provides resistance, and that means an increase in your strength and muscle definition. It’s similar in some ways to resistance training by lifting weights. That’s why so many Olympic level athletes now make swimming a part of their daily workout. The good news is that you don’t have to be an Olympian to get identical fitness benefits.
I won’t kid you into thinking that a lap pool is inexpensive, but it certainly will cost less than putting a huge traditional pool in your back yard. It will also take up less room. And if you go with one of the small models where you swim against a stream of jets, you can probably find room in your home. An indoor pool means you won’t have to worry if it’s cold or raining, you can still get your exercise every day.
If you should decide on a full length pool placed in ground and in your back yard, you’re not only getting a place to exercise, but a place to entertain as well. Get an above ground pool and you’ll likely be able to take it with you if you decide to move. Most of them are easily portable. And because of their size, they are relatively easy to maintain and keep clean. Not only do they cost less to get, they cost less to run as well.
If you’re looking for a piece of exercise equipment, doesn’t it make sense to get one that does everything? Your exercise should give you a good cardiovascular workout to burn calories, but with minimal chance of injury because it is low impact. Your exercise should also provide some resistance to build strength and muscle definition. Swimming will do all of that. Throw in the fact that a lap pool will fit almost anywhere, is easy to maintain, looks great and won’t throw you into the poor house, and there’s really nothing else you could ask for. Except maybe for your exercise to be fun, and you’ll have a hard time finding someone to tell you they don’t like to swim.
